Cornea is the clear transparent dome in front of the eye, similar to a watch glass.
Its transparency permits entry of light into the eye.
It plays an important role in focusing the light rays on the light sensitive region in the back of the eye.
Diseases of the cornea lead to a loss of transparency, thus interfering with vision.
Injury, Infection and genetic diseases can affect the health of the Cornea.
Permanent corneal opacification can be corrected by corneal transplantation (Mistakenly called 'Eye transplantation’).

Contact Lenses : routine and specialized fitting is done regularly ; soft, semi-soft, aphakic, toric, keratoconus as well as disposable and cosmetic lenses are dispensed regularly.

Specular Microscope : is an important diagnostic and research tool to study the inner layer of the cornea. It is highly specialized instrument present only in select centres in India and abroad.

Corneal Topography : again a very versatile instrument present in only a few centres worldwide. It is used in selective corneal conditions ,contact lens fitting and laser refractive surgery. It may also be used before and after cataract surgery.
